A Book & Lifestyle Blog
I feel like I should preface this by stating the obvious: I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, a fashion influencer. What I am is a woman who has been trying to build a new wardrobe that is conducive to the life I currently live versus the life my clothes all previously fit.
Like a lot of working moms during the pandemic, I went from working full-time in a professional office setting to working remotely while also not having childcare to eventually leaving the workforce to be a stay-at-home mom. My wardrobe of mostly dresses, pencil skirts, dress pants, and blouses was not ideal for my situation once I was out of the office environment.
I am trying to transition my closet to meet my current needs, and my main goal is to have a simple wardrobe that allows me to feel confident when I leave the house while still being comfortable enough to chase two toddlers. My favorite fashion blogger — Jessica from An Indigo Day — has been a fantastic source for updating my wardrobe, embracing current fits, and how to style certain pieces.
I’m not working with an unlimited budget, so I have been creating a quasi-capsule wardrobe with affordable pieces from mostly Old Navy, Target, and Amazon. I plan to invest in some higher quality staples in the future, but this is a good beginning for my immediate needs as I work to completely overhaul my closet.
I’ve put together four budget-friendly outfit ideas that have inspired some of my shopping for the Fall. You can easily swap out pieces to fit your mood, the weather, or what’s currently in your closet. Check them out below (links under each graphic)!
This is great for running errands, school pick-up/drop-off, and lounging.
My secret with this outfit is with the hoodie — the one I got from Target is actually from the men’s section! Basic and graphic tees are an easy alternative or switch out the hoodie for a long-line cardigan or shacket.
Hat | Striped Tee | Hoodie | Joggers | Sneakers | Crossbody Sling Bag
This is perfect for those days when you want or need to look more put together while still keeping comfortable. This will likely be my go-to for my son’s school functions.
I grabbed a basic pair of trousers that have a looser fit than the dress pants I previously owned. Do a simple front tuck with the buttoned up sweater or add a cami underneath and wear it open.
This is a fun but relaxed look for a night out with friends.
Mix it up by swapping out the leather jacket for a chunky cardigan or oversized blazer or change up the jeans with some faux leather leggings. You can’t go wrong with a Chelsea boot, but the shoes can easily be changed out for something lighter.
This is a simple but cute date night look that works well for dinner and drinks.
Understated gold jewelry is the way to go. For chillier weather, I’d add a khaki trench as outerwear (with the belt casually tied in the back).
Blouse | Boot-cut Jeans | Sock Booties | Purse | Earrings | Bracelets
