SERIES REVIEW: The Penthouse Affair Duet by Kendall Ryan

The Penthouse Affair Duet by Kendall Ryan is now complete!  I am bringing you a review of both books, The Two-Week Arrangement and Seven Nights of Sin, so you can begin your binge read of this series.

As a whole, I rate the duet 3 stars!  I usually adore Kendall’s characters which make me, in turn, adore her stories.  I wasn’t a huge fan of Presley and Dominic.  On a different note, I would have preferred one longer book rather than the duet.  I’m not sure the split in the story was necessary, and with a combined page count of 535, I feel like it would have been do-able as a standalone.  I’m not in publishing or marketing, though, so this is just my personal opinion.

Now, on to the reviews…

Dear Sexy AF Intern,

I know you don’t particularly care that I’m the CEO of this company, and you’re just an intern. I also know you’re not impressed by my power or my wealth, and that’s fine.

You think you’ve got me all figured out from working alongside me for two weeks, but you don’t know me. Not really.

You don’t know that I’m a single dad to twin toddlers, or that those two little girls matter more to me than this entire hotel chain.

I’m not interested in starting something deep and meaningful, but what I am interested in is the way your body reacts to mine when we’re in the same room. You probably assume the concentration on my face is work-related, when in reality, I’m figuring out which I want more–to nail you against the wall, or to bend you over my desk.

While you’re too disciplined to act on it, I’m not. And the night you stepped into my limo, all bets were off.

The Two-Week Arrangement is sexy with a touch of drama, but something missed the mark for me.

I love Kendall’s books!  I don’t hesitate to pick them up, and often I find myself unable to put them down.  That being said, The Two-Week Arrangement was not one of my favorites, though I did like it!

This workplace, single dad contemporary romance is the first book in The Penthouse Affair duet.  Be warned, THERE IS A CLIFFHANGER, but the good news about that is the second book is now available!  The story is told in the dual POVs of our leads, Presley and Dominic.

I adore seeing a hard-working, intelligent female main character, like Presley!  I felt like her character developed into something different than I would have liked to see, though.  Some of her morals kind of went out the door as soon as a man was in the picture.  On the other side is Dominic — a successful but cautious man who is very protective of his family and business.  I thought he sometimes walked the line between broody and an asshole, but I felt like a lot of that stemmed from his past and his need to protect his future, so it worked.

I’m not sure that I have a good way to describe the plot other than trope-y which made it a bit predictable.  I enjoyed the story enough, but some of the characters’ thoughts/actions deterred me from getting completely invested.

He’s the powerful CEO. I’m the know-it-all intern.

Things went further than they should have, but I don’t have any regrets. Well, maybe just one…

I went and did the one thing he told me not to – fall in love with him.

Now I have seven days to prove my trust and devotion. Turns out money is a powerful drug, but love is even more addictive.

Seven Nights of Sin is the stunningly sexy and heart-tugging conclusion to The Two Week Arrangement.

My Rating:  3 stars

The Penthouse Affair Series continues with book 2, Seven Nights of Sin.

I’m going to keep this fairly short and sweet because: 1) I covered some basics above, and 2) I have no intention of revealing spoilers.  The story picks right back up where it left off in The Two-Week Arrangement, carrying on Presley and Dominic’s dual POVs.

My feelings didn’t change much from my review of book 1.  I liked it, but I didn’t love it.

After losing trust in her, Dom throws up more walls, and Presley has to take the time to try to break through them.  I normally enjoy some good push and pull between characters, but in this case, it didn’t feel genuine to me.
